This is currently in play testing, and is 100% NOT required for you
to use in your RP sessions now or in the future. We are providing this as
an idea of how you can use the dice system, help rpdice, to influence your
RP as you see fit. We want narrative to be at the forefront, so think of
these rules that you can use to unify your play experience, but not as an
explanation for every potential scenario.
The name for this is the RPDICE System.
The Hit Roll:
The formula is: 10 +/- 3 x (tier difference of you vs target)
The first roll is used to determine if you hit your target, and is
modified by the tier of your target, starting at a base value of 10. For
example if you are a t0 and fighting against a t0 you would need to roll
a 10 or above to hit. For each tier difference you would modify that 10
by 3, adding or subtracting depending on the direction.
t0 vs t0 - 10 or above to hit
t0 vs t1 - 13 or above to hit
t0 vs t2 - 16 or above to hit
t1 vs t2 - 13 or above to hit
t2 vs t0 - 4 or above to hit
t3 vs to - 1 or above to hit
t3 vs t3 - 10 or above to hit
Damage and Health:
You have 8 HP per tier starting at 0.
With each tier you gain +4 health. 8 + 4*tier
t0 = 8 t1 = 12
t2 = 16 t3 = 20
t4 = 24 t5 = 30
t6 = 34 t7 = 38
tM = 4 (see below for tier minion)
Each time you successfully hit you roll a [1d4 + tier] to
see the amount of damage you do.
chat cdice* x y z
x = 1
y = 4
z = Your Tier
The result is how much damage you do to your opponents health. Your
opponent can block this (more on that later) and once they fall to 0 or
below they are consider unconscious. We do NOT like for player
characters to kill each other in RP unless there is an extremely good
reason. This is due to the time investment and cost of "rerolling". After
a player is unconscious an execution could be performed without having to
roll for hit.
RPE and Influence:
The terms RPEnergy and influence are used interchangeably. In
the dice system RPE is used to influence your rolls. When you take damage
you can spend 10 RPE per damage done to you to negate it. For example:
If someone hits you and rolls a 1d4 and gets a 4, you'd need to spend 40
energy to reduce that to 0. You could also spend only 20 energy and take
2 damage instead. Effectively this gives you about 10 extra health if you
are at max RPE.
The second thing you can use RPE for is to influence your hits. This is
where a small bit of math comes into the RP Dice System.
When fighting a target stronger than you the cost is calculated as:
(tier difference) x 3 x (number added to hit roll)
tier difference is always a minimum of 1, even if fighting equal tier.
For example: If you are a t0 fighting a t1 and you roll a Hit of 9,
you need 4 more to confirm that hit. You would take your tier difference,
t0 vs t1 = 1, times 3 (this is your constant), times 4 to make up the
lack of hit. This would equal out to 12 RPE. Then you would roll damage.
In the same scenario as above but you rolled a 2 to hit, you would need
to influence the roll by 11. This would cost 33 RPE.
When fighting a target weaker than you the cost is calculated as:
Use the same formula as above except the tier difference is always
considered 1.
We suggest that you do not use Influence/RPE for NPC's, unless it is
a very strong character. A "boss" mob or something along those lines.
This is your "main character" or "meta" bonus as a PC.
In Combat Regen:
Each time you roll to hit and miss, and then DO NOT spend any RPE to
influence that roll, you gain back +5 RPE. This can be thought of
as reserving your energy. This also helps several lower tier characters
build up energy when taking on a larger foe.
Resting:
At what rate do you recover between RP's? For an RP where you have
rested for at least a "long rest" you can roll according to this formula:
Healing RPE - 5d9 + 10
For example a character would roll 5d9 + 10 and add that to their current
RPE. If you were at 30 and rolled 45, you'd be at 75 energy. This system
was depended on tier before but the defence is more related to Health
now.
Healing HP - You recover half of your lost HP rounded down.
If you have 8 HP and lost 6, you would recover 3.
If you have 8 HP and lost 1, you would recover none.
If you had an extended time between RP sessions, or are starting a new
arc, the old rules of recovery would likely still apply and you would
begin fully recharged. If a single fight extended over two sessions you
would NOT recover between these in the same manner. In addition you could
use these recovery rules in other situations as you see fit, as long as
all parties agree.
You can play around with these rules as you see fit. Were you in a
healing tank instead of just sleeping in a bed? Maybe you roll twice.
Also if all parties agree, or you're in a solo, instead of having to
rest you can invent a reason to recover. We don't want a few bad dice
to force you to create downtime.
Tier Minion
Sometimes while at t0 you might want to fight a couple of lowly thugs
or other easy targets. Going up against a couple evenly matched t0's
even without them having RPE could prove to be rather difficult. For
NPC's only there is a tM or Tier Minion. This is treated as a
tier negative one for purposes of hit, so a t0 would require only 7
to hit, and the tM would need 13. This is to follow the tier system
of a tier 0 being above average when compared to a regular Joe or
perhaps a possessed candelabra.
Transformations:
At certain tiers you unlock transformations in RP, such as something
like super saiyan from the show.
Each transformation permanently modifies your Damage roll until the end
of battle OR if you drop below 10 RPEnergy you fall out of transformation.
1st Form: Your damage roll is now a 1d6
2nd Form: Your damage roll is now a 1d8
3rd Form: Your damage roll is now a 1d10
The cost to transform is based upon your RP tier level.
X = impossible
You must ADD the cost of the previous transform when ascending to your
2nd and 3rd forms. 3rd form at t7 would cost 70% RPE.
1st Form 2nd Form 3rd Form
t3 = 50% t3 = X t3 = X
t4 = 25% t4 = X t4 = X
t5 = 10% t5 = 50% t5 = X
t6 = 10% t6 = 25% t6 = X
t7 = 10% t7 = 10% t7 = 50%
Posting on Chat:
So how does this all come together on chat? We suggest rolling all
the potential hit and damage PRIOR to your post. That way you can narrate
what is happening instead of breaking up your posts. However, feel free to
do whatever you want. From feedback it seems like most people like to
see the rolls. You can write these in line to show what happened.
For example:
To avoid the blow he had practically leapt backward and as he widen
the gap between Leef and the second bandit the Ranger turned the knife over,
spun and then brought it towards the other thief's neck in a quick
whirlwind of movement (Strike: 14/hit/DEF-2) but he too barely managed
to dodge out of the way.
In this example it is saying that the attacker rolled a 14, it hit, and
the person that was hit chose to defend by spending RPE. This means that
they would've taken damage but negated it by using RPE. The -2 is how much
damage was negated.
To avoid the blow he had practically leapt backward and as he widen
the gap between Leef and the second bandit the Ranger turned the knife over,
spun and then brought it towards the other thief's neck in a quick whirlwind
of movement (Strike: 14/hit/3 dmg) and cut him wide open!
In this similar example, the defender did not choose to save. So instead
took 3 damage.
You might write something else like (Atk: 9/miss) or
(Atk: 9+4/hit/2 dmg). Its not necessary to do it this way and you could
just post the rolls in your RP log, or not include them at all if you feel
like it breaks up the narrative too much. Posting them in-line like this
helps to reduce the amount of spam, and lets it read a little better.
A special thanks to Indon, Lux(Ike), and many others to help put this
system together.
