                        EVERY ROSE HAS ITS THORNS

Resting comfortably in a secluded pocket of the West galaxy, the planet
of Hydia is renowned for its beautiful landscapes and artisan people.
While forswearing its right of sovereignty to the Icer Empire, Hydia
remains unburdened by the crippling brutality that has plagued Ng Yelo.
The Hydians themselves are a race of mostly peaceful aliens whose primary
abilities are the mastery of the fine arts. Few other races in the
universe possess the natural poise and talent of the Hydian people, and
they are widely known as the fairest of all species in the galaxy.

But every rose has its thorns.

The true nature of the curse that afflicts Hydia is unknown, but the
Warrior Poets of the Lotus Temple tell legend that the curse was bestowed
upon their planet by a fallen Kaioshin many ages ago. At the height of
Hydia's most elegant era, one of the powerful and heavenly Kaioshin
descended from the Afterlife and poisoned the very heart of the planet as
punishment for the Hydian's vanity and corruption.

The curse has many names, but in recent times it has been often called,
"Lykanrot" and its affects are slowly transforming the beautiful planet of
Hydia and its people into something sinister and savage.

The wild lands of Hydia display the most visible signs of the curse. Once
beautiful rain forests are now toxic jungles full of crazed beasts and
carnivorous plants eager to maim and kill any who dare tread in them.
Crystal blue oceans have become boiling seas filled with man-eating fish
and poisonous reefs. The curse has spread to the Hydian cities as well,
afflicting those who are most sensitive to the new ascendant energy growing
in the cosmos. Hydian's undergo horrifying and savage transformations,
robbing them of their cherished beauty and turning them into monsters.

The curse of the Lykanrot is topic of taboo however, and word of it has not
spread much further than the west galaxy. Entire city states of the planet
would deny its existence entirely, but one only need follow the dark
forests paths into the wilderness to learn the truth.

What once was a race of artists and poets is quickly becoming a race of
warriors as pilgrims from Hydia take to the stars in search of a desperate
cure.
