Syntax : Spacewars [<Start/Join/Shiplist/Leave>]
So... Someone hit the Spacewars button, and is now asking you to join
but you've never flown a ship before. Well this helpfile is your one stop
shop for becoming a Fearless Young Space Cadet! Before continuing, please
read HELP SPACEWARS, HELP SHIP, and HELP SHIP2 for a breakdown of the
maneuvers we'll be covering today. Those maneuvers will be highlighted
white to help navigate this training with ease.
The first thing you'll want to do is type Spacewars Join to join the
battle. This will teleport you to the Armada loading bay, where the
Space Wars Fighter (SWF) ships are stored. Once you have been
teleported, type Spacewars Shiplist to see which ship you have
been assigned. Openhatch on that ship, and board it. Be sure to
closehatch behind you before launching.
You are now floating through space! Be sure to set your speed, or
you'll be a sitting duck! You can see other ships and terrestrial bodies
around you by checking your radar. Be sure to target your opponents,
as determined by the spacewars game type you are playing. Once you've
acquired your target, you'll want to take advantage of your ships
onboard autotrack capability to make sure you stay on their tail.
Now that you're tracking your target, you'll need to fire your
weapons at them. You have four main weapons at your disposal. In order
from most accurate and least damaging, to least accurate and most
damaging, they are lasers, missiles, rockets, and torpedos. Each of
these weapons can be used a limited number of times before going on
cooldown or needing reloaded (done automatically). Most of your combat
will involve picking the correct target, and unleashing hell in the form
of firing your weapons.
But it's not a war if they don't fight back. Sometimes you might
find yourself outgunned and in need of a quick break. This is what
separates the Elite Pilots from the cannon fodder. Your ship has limited
defensive capabilites, so you'll need to make maximum use of them.
Make sure you turn your shields on at the start of every battle. In a
pinch, you can hcalc new coordinates in the same system your currently
in, far from the main fray, and then lightspeed jump to those
coordinates. If you haven't been followed, take a moment to
recharge your shields, and repairship any critical systems that
have been damaged. It's also a good idea to check your ships info log
to see how she's looking. Once you're ready to get back in the brawl,
simply hcalc and lightspeed back to the battle.
While this guide is not meant to be exhaustive, it should definitely
help you hold your own against other pilots, and even the feared Super
Dreadnaught Destroyer-Class Battlenova featured in the Gauntlet game
type. Farewell,and happy Spacewars!
