Sayrian & Arashi: Living Lore Document
A working reference for the planet Sayrian, its culture, and the character Arashi. Updated over time as new details come up in play.
THE PLANET SAYRIAN
Origins
Sayrian is a planet the Saiyans settled in the years after Planet Vegeta was destroyed and before it was remade. The founders wanted something their homeworld never had. What grew there was an actual civilization: cities, law, and a stable society, rather than a pure warrior culture.
Government
A monarch rules alongside a small council that the people elect. Strength is still honored on Sayrian, but it has structure. It is not the raw might-makes-right order of old Planet Vegeta.
Caste
A caste system exists on Sayrian, but it is not the hard dividing line it is in other places (notably less rigid than on planet Vegeta). It plays into culture and tradition, including martial styles, but it does not fully determine a person's worth or path.
Values
Sayrians hold kindness and strength as equal weights. One is not considered worth much without the other. This is a defining cultural distinction from mainline Saiyan culture and from empires like the Icer Galactic Empire, whose societies run on strength alone.
SAYRIAN CULTURE & TRADITION
The Pilgrimage (leaving at eighteen)
Every Saiyan on Sayrian leaves at eighteen. It is not exile and it is not exactly a test. You go out to see what the galaxy actually is, to bring back something worth knowing, and to find out who you are when no one is holding you to a standard but yourself.
Return is not tied to a fixed age. You come home when you have learned something useful to Sayrian society and something true about yourself. Some people find it quickly. Some take years. Some never come back at all.
Ki and the Full Moon
Sayrians are born close to ki. Nearly everyone develops some feel for it and some use of it. They retain the Saiyan full-moon transformation into the Great Ape (Oozaru). Arashi is aware of this about herself and treats it matter-of-factly.
Martial Arts
Sayrian has many martial styles. Different regions, families, and castes developed their own approaches over the years, and most borrowed from one another until the lines between them blurred. Almost none of it is restricted.
- Tattoi-Ryu — Originated in the noble houses but is not restricted to nobility; anyone who wants it can learn it. Arashi's primary form.
- Kurogane-Ryu ("Black Iron") — The one major exception. The Saiyan special forces combat art. You do not learn it unless you are one of them, and it cannot be taught to outsiders. (See Arashi's section for how she knows it.)
ARASHI
Identity
- Name: Arashi
- Title: Lady (she is of the royal line, but far enough down that Lady is the only title she carries)
- Origin: Planet Sayrian
- Role: Diplomatic envoy, currently posted to Earth, working to establish relations
- Family: An older brother and a younger sister. She loves them both and will not admit to missing either. Her brother is older, quieter, less bubbly than she is, and was more of a rebel in his youth than she was.
Upbringing
Close enough to the throne for good tutors and better sparring masters, at the cost of the expectation that she carry herself well. Nobility came with standards, and she was raised on them. Her posture and bearing were drilled into her early and never left.
The Journey (her ascension)
On her pilgrimage she landed on a small world she only meant to pass through. The people there were skilled with medicine and agriculture, and good to her. Then professional slavers came, expecting no resistance. She fought and it was not enough. She ended up on her knees in the dirt, nearly dead, looking up at the people (and the children) about to lose everything.
Something broke open in her. A burning rage and inner fire pushed her past her limits and she ascended. Her ki lashed out, the slavers were destroyed, and she collapsed in the ash and wreckage. She woke days later. This was about a year ago, so she has not been ascended for long, but she remembers exactly what it cost.
She stayed on that world eleven months afterward, helping rebuild and learning their mastery of agriculture and medicine. She learned their names and they learned hers. She still keeps in loose contact with some of them, though she has not visited in a long time.
Her Promise & Honor Code
In the ash of that field she made herself a promise: to become strong enough that no tyrant, anywhere, could look at her and feel safe. She has not broken it.
She has no patience for anyone who uses power against people who cannot answer it. No interest in their reasons, no ear for their excuses. Her own honor came from experience and from learning who she is, not just from noble standards.
What she is chasing: strong enough to stand in front of people who abuse their power, strong enough to be truly free, strong enough that no one can force her into decisions or situations she does not agree with.
Personality
Warm and genuinely curious. Bold to the point of being a problem. A real streak of mischief that sometimes gets her into trouble. She enjoys being underestimated far too much to correct anyone. She keeps her word and her honor, and when someone weaker than her needs standing in front of, she does it with a grin.
She is an active, total listener, the kind most people only pretend at. She believes it is no one's job to entertain or make her happy but her own, so she makes her own fun. She does not judge people for their appearance, their damage, or their reputation; scars and battle damage read to her as history, not weakness. She has a Saiyan's love of a good fight in her blood, Sayrian upbringing or not.
She has an enormous Saiyan appetite and no shame about it. She loves Earth for being loud, messy, and alive, and she is delighted by cat videos on the internet.
Fighting Style (summary)
Fluid, predatory close-quarters fighter who wins on skill and fight-reading. Primary form Tattoi-Ryu; also knows some Kurogane-Ryu (kept implied, never stated; she learned it because the royal line opened a door that should have stayed shut, and she will not teach it). She slips and redirects, uses momentum, baits with bad strikes to set up real ones, watches the collarbone rather than the hands, grapples well and likes to finish on the ground, and keeps her tail live as a weapon and counterweight. (Full detail in the separate fighting-style reference.)
